Worst Thanksgiving Ever

We never really had an extended family with which to celebrate holidays.  As such, our holidays were spent at our house comprised of me, my wife, and our 2 girls. We both had extended family, but neither me or my wife kept in touch with our respective kin. Earlier this week, we received a letter from my wife’s great uncle. According to him, his father, my wife’s grandfather, had passed away. Because the unfortunate death basically coincided with Thanksgiving, we were invited to his ranch house about 3 hours away to celebrate the holiday and pay any respects we might want to pay. After some discussion, we decided we would attend the funeral, and the Thanksgiving feast the next night. Since all we had planned this year was the same as the last however many, just our small family at the house, we thought it might be nice to do something different for a change. We set out yesterday morning and made it to our hotel at about 2am. We spent most of the day hanging out in the hotel, then made the half hour drive to her uncle’s house, where the wake was set up. We thought it was odd that the wake was at his residence, but they were strange people, according to my wife. Really, the only reason she agreed to go was because she vaguely remembered spending time with her grandfather when she was much younger, […]

The Hospital In Happiness

If you ever find yourself in a town called Happiness, leave. Immediately. That is the best advice anyone will ever give you. Sorry for the length of this, I just hope my details will sway you from ever trying to find such a place, and dissuade you from sticking around should you ever find yourself there. I was driving cross country a few years ago, and I got what I’m certain was food poisoning somewhere in the midwest. After driving for about an hour, throwing up on the side of the road every 10 minutes, I decided to find the nearest hospital (since I didn’t know what was wrong with me at the time). I found I was nearly 2 hours away from the nearest town. Figuring I had no other choice, I began driving. After about 40 minutes, I drove into a town called Happiness. Happiness wasn’t marked on any map, or located on any GPS I had, but there were signs directing me to a hospital. I arrived at a place called Happiness General, which was located on the outskirts of the small town. The outside of the building looked very modern, relatively new even, so there was no cause for concern at the sight of the place. I parked my car in what was a mostly empty lot (which again didn’t surprise me, as it was a very small town I was in), and entered through the […]

The Hatch

In my backyard, we have a koi pond. It’s been kind of a never-ending project of mine and my wife’s, something we’ve put a lot of time, effort, and money into in the 3 years we’ve lived in our house. A few weeks ago, we decided to extend it some, and I finally got started on what needed to be […]

Why You Should Keep Your Toes In The Bed

Whether or not you do it yourself, surely you’ve heard of the fact that some people don’t like having their feet hang over the edge of their bed at night. I am one of those people, and I believe I have good reason. I was 10 years old, and we had recently moved into a new house. About two weeks in, I inexplicably started feeling very uneasy at night when I would go to bed. There was nothing outright scary happening, it just seemed as if the normal bumps and creaks in the night were amplified, like the darkness seemed darker, the shadows more pronounced. In the following weeks, my parents were going to order me a new, bigger bed, so unfortunately for the interim, I had to deal with my current bed, an old, worn out hand-me-down that was too short for me. It first started on a Tuesday night, I don’t know why I remember that but I do. At this point, I’d never had any experiences that would have made me afraid to have my feet hanging off the edge of the bed.  But that Tuesday night, I must have fallen asleep with my toes just past the threshold. At some point in the middle of the night, I was awoken by what felt like a pinching at the tips of my toes. It didn’t hurt, per se, but it wasn’t exactly the most comfortable thing to […]

Jury Duty – Part 4

The last night before the jury deliberation brought forth only one thing. A terrible nightmare. We were all sitting around the table, discussing aspects of the case, most notably the inconsistencies in the defense. It seemed like a relative slam dunk. The affected jurors seemed fine, and didn’t bring up the oddities that have been plaguing us. Then, something atop the drop ceiling scurried around. We all look up as black dust drops onto the table. There is a knock on the door. The bailiff opens it from the outside, and in walks Anthony Mineo, the lover of the late Jessica Willis. He does a lap around the table as we sit silently. He then drops to his knees and chants something I can’t remember. The whole ceiling above the table falls, seemingly from the mountain of black dust resting on it. From the dust comes the form of the entity that has been plaguing us for the last week. It gets bigger than I could have imagined, and take one whole side of the table, both affected jurors and otherwise, and envelops them in his cape. When he retracts his arm, the revelation is gruesome. All the people that were covered by the cloak (or cape, whatever it was) are basically sitting piles of skin and organs, their bones seemingly removed. The entity jumps off the table, and grabs the person who is trying to get the door open […]

Jury Duty – Part 3

Yesterday after court, I immediately came home and wrote down everything that had happened since my previous post. I think it’s best if I keep everyone up to date, just in case something happens. At least people will know what’s going on and give me the best advice possible. I also want to say I appreciate the help offered by those of you who have in fact offered. Sadly, I had to put the disclaimer at the top of the posts because I was getting a rash of inbox messages from people claiming I’m going to jail soon. Anyways, back to what you people really care about. As I said, I came home, I posted yesterday’s update, and not long after that, I got a call from Lisandra (the affected jurors all exchanged numbers). She said that on her ride home, she was followed by something. It wasn’t another car or person, but rather, she said, “something that was always *just* out of [her] peripheral vision”; like she would see it out of the corner of her eye, and when she looked, it was gone. She said she got back to her house, where she had had her husband screw closed the door to the attic, and sat down in her living room. When the thing returned at the sides of her vision, she didn’t look to it, but rather kept looking straight ahead. She said it inched its way […]

Jury Duty – Part 2

So I posted the last one, and got a few people freaking out about the fact that I’m on a jury and posting about it online. The fact is, I’m not looking for opinions on the case. I am impartial when it comes to the trial of John Willis. All that information is just background. What’s really concerning me and causing me to post this are the things happening outside of the courtroom since this trial started. So please, if you have a moral objection to what I’m doing, keep it to yourself. Also, the Willis case is happening in a relatively small town, and isn’t getting any mainstream coverage. Hell, it’s barely getting any local coverage. So…yeah. Let’s get to it. I had to go out to store Saturday afternoon, and when I opened my car door, I had that black dust stuff on my hands, like it was underneath my car door handle. I still had, and still have no idea as of the writing of this post. Anyways, on my way to the store, I heard something shuffling around in my backseat. It freaked the shit out of me, naturally, but I was driving on the freeway, so I couldn’t exactly pull over and stop just then. I looked in my rearview and saw nothing. Just to be sure, I quickly looked behind me and…I’m not really sure what I saw. There was something like, hiding under […]
